Dakota Johnson doesn't have good things to say about her "Office" job.
The "Madame Web" star chatted with Seth Meyers about appearing on the series finale of "The Office" in 2013, revealing, "That was honestly the worst time of my life."
In the episode, Johnson played Dakota, whom Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) hires at the office to replace Kevin (Brian Baumgartner). But although it was a relatively small role, Johnson said she was on set for much longer than she expected.
"I loved that show so much, and they were like, 'Do you want to be in the series finale?'" she recalled. "And I was like, 'Of course,' thinking that I'd show up for like half a day. I was there for two weeks, and I'm barely in the (expletive) show."
It didn't help that the vibe on set was rather somber given it was the sitcom's last episode, and Johnson felt out of place coming into an environment where everyone else knew each other.
"There were weird dynamics that had been going on for the last 10 years," she explained. "Some people didn't speak to each other, and I'm coming in like, 'So excited to be here!' And no one wanted to talk to me. Nobody gave a (expletive)."

After all that, Johnson didn't have very much screen time, but she could be seen "in the background of all of these scenes faxing things," she noted. Her appearance on "The Office" came two years before her breakout role as Anastasia Steele in "Fifty Shades of Grey."
In 2021, a Hollywood Reporter profile of Johnson revealed the "Office" appearance was poised to set up a spin-off that she would star in, but the show never happened.

"If everything else just falls away, maybe you'll find me in that 'Office' spinoff that no one wants to watch," she told the Reporter at the time. "I don't know in what world that would've worked for me creatively. I have found that when something is successful, even when there’s nothing left, they just keep trying to wring out the towel of story. Sometimes things need to end when they're supposed to end."
Johnson previously looked back on her "Office" role in a Vanity Fair career retrospective in 2022, saying that being in the episode made her feel like she was "crashing someone's birthday party when they actually really didn't mean to invite me."
